The Olympic lanes on Egham bypass are almost ready. The roadworks to ensure road-users know they’re not to use the lane set aside for athletes, officials, sponsors and anyone rich enough to afford a pass are almost complete.
It might come as a surprise to many that there will be Olympic lanes in Egham; indeed the words on many people’s lips have been “when did they ask us about Olympic lanes in Egham?” The answer is they didn’t. The local council authorised them nice and quietly so no one would kick up a fuss.
Anyone that has driven along Egham bypass will know that congestion is a major problem already without it being reduced to one lane for public use.
Sadly the failure to consult the public in our local area isn’t the only case where local authorities have failed to be transparent about their plans for the Olympics. For other examples see our previous article ‘The Olympics Comes to Royal Holloway’.
